| April 2008 Top 10 Ways To Address Your Critics |
by Marge Powers, CCBW |
1. Critics are not your enemy - they can provide external perspective and insight. 2. Listen to your critics with an open mind and heart - listening does not mean you agree with them. 3. Separate the message from the messenger - transcend emotion and ego. Imagine the message came from a different source. 4. Moderate self-criticism - you can be your own worst enemy. 5. Put on a positive spin - pay attention to your thought process and see the opportunity for growth in the critique. 6. Avoid self-doubt - trust your instincts. 7. Learn from your critics - every experience has value. 8. Appreciate your critics - explore their response if you do agree with them. 9. Respond sensibly and intelligently - don't react. 10. Avoid personal hurt - don't give others permission to offend you. |
